General Medical Services
Volunteer community health workers trained at the Berkeley Free Clinic,
together with volunteer medical professionals from the community,
provide limited acute (short-term), primary care services (where we
provide treatment ourselves, but can refer you to another doctor or
hospital if necessary).
Our lay community health workers are trained on-site to see the following illnesses:
* Basic Men's STDs
* Colds and Sore Throats
* Simple Rashes, and Skin Concerns
In addition most of the lay health care workers at the clinic can:
* Test for TB.
* Provide pregnancy testing.
Some healthcare workers can see:
* Limited ear problems.
* Limited lower respiratory concerns.
* Urinary tract infections in women.
None of our lay health workers can see long-term
problems, like diabetes or HIV, or problems that are life threatening
or may be life threatening.
