Resource Navigation & Call Center

The Berkeley Free Clinic is available by phone every day of the week to direct anyone to medical and other services appropriate for their financial position.

We are available via phone toll-free at 1-800-6-CLINIC (1-800-625-4642) or at (510) 548-2570 at the following times:

  • Monday to Friday: 6:30pm - 9pm

  • Saturday: 11am - 3:30pm

  • Sunday: 4:30pm - 7pm

Anyone that calls the BFC will be directed to appropriate services that we can provide or that other organizations can provide. For example, we can provide information about appropriate shelters, food resources, crisis hotlines, domestic violence resources, and hospitals for medical treatments we cannot provide.

We strive to have a thorough understanding of all free or low-cost services in the Bay Area so we can offer multiple options and direct you to the most appropriate one.

Local Resources & Informational Links

Please note: Please contact any organizations before you visit to verify that you have the right hours, location, etc. We are continually updating our referrals, but sometimes things change faster than we can update our information.

Substance Use Disorder Treatment

Outpatient treatment for substance use disorders, including medications like buprenorphine (Suboxone), can be accessed in primary care clinics. Finding a clinician who is non-judgemental and comfortable treating substance use disorders can be challenging – we recommend community health clinics such as Lifelong Medical, Asian Health Services, La Clinica, or Native American Health Center.

Methadone Programs

By law, methadone for treating opioid use disorder is only available at federally regulated methadone clinics and can only be provided to people who have been living with opioid use disorder for at least 1 year. In the East Bay, methadone is available at HAART Clinic locations. In San Francisco, methadone is available at the BAART Clinic and at San Francisco General Hospital's Ward 93 (requires a referral from a San Francisco Department of Public Health clinic). These clinics generally require daily in-person visits, often very early in the morning.
